Disappointing Week?

So, here's the updates on the big stuff going on:

Job promotion: I believe I mentioned I got a phone interview for the position. Well, this week, I got the nice email from our manager of IT admin thanking me for my interest but stating I didn't have all the experience/qualifications they were looking for.

Band playing the festival: Also received a nice email thanking us for submitting but that all the final selections were made and try again next year but please do everything we can to help promote the event.

On an unrelated note, I had some blood work done recently and went over the results with my doc this week. Turns out my sugar level is bordering on diabetes, which runs in the family. I have to call a dietician to discuss how to eat right to prevent full on diabetes.

You'd think with all of that I'd be having a bad week. However, it's actually been a pretty good week. Or, at least, no better or worse than any other week. It had its ups and downs, but I'm feeling pretty good. Truthfully, I wasn't sure I wanted the job I'd applied for, I'm just looking to break out of my current role. The festival would have been cool, but it's no big deal either way. I'm mostly conerned about my health, so taking care of myself is becoming the focus. I'll keep my peeps apprised of how things go.

Fhat the Wuck

I feel like I should post something of substance, but truth be told, I can't think of anything. However, I don't want it to get too dusty around here and the crickets are getting a little loud. Since I'm on the laptop anyway, figured I'd throw up a quick post.

The band is trying to get in on a Catholic festival coming to Western New York in August. We've been going back and forth on what music to submit, all original or including covers. The problem has become getting copyright to record the covers. And we just found out today we need to get the music to the organizers by Wednesday to be considered. So an email went out asking if we should send originals only. An issue? Not for me. I've written every original song the band does. Oh, and I sing them all too. So while it's no sweat for me, I don't know if the band is into submitting my music since it's not representative of all the things we do. Hell, I'm ok with just submitting a couple songs off my CD. Again, don't know how the rest of the band feels but I really want to do this gig.

I'm finally getting to go to some cool training for work. That means I'll be in NYC for 3 days in September and in Boston for 3 days in October. Can you say BLOGGER MEET! The only reason I wanted to go to NYC was to get a chance to see Julz again. It's been literally YEARS (since Queen in October 05, holy shit!) I've made some additional blogger pals in the area and would love to do an in person meet if possible. So I'll be emailing some of you at the end of the summer!

I've had a phone interview for a promotion at work. Don't know where it's going to go from there but we'll see. The position would report to my boss's new boss, who started Monday this week. As it happens, I was out in Schenectady the last two days and got a chance to meet her. I also made it a point of chatting with her today, giving her some good IT tips and tricks, assuring her if she had ANY problems just to give me or my team a call, AND gave her my card with my cell number and said she shouldn't be afraid to use it. Was I too obvious? Not that I wouldn't have done any of that stuff anyway, but first impressions and all. Told you I can play the game if I need to.

Anyway, I'm off to play my guitar and do some reading. Those two things have been my big "downtime" activities. I'm still visiting everyone during lunch at work (assuming I have a chance to EAT lunch at work) so I'll be round.

Where I've been

I've been here now.

I had leadership training last week and one of the concepts was "Be Here Now", meaning, give your attention to what's going on at any particular time instead of multi-tasking. The concept of multi-tasking has been so ingrained in our heads lately that it seems if you're not doing 3 things at once, you're slacking. However, I've found that by no longer multi-taksing, I'm more productive. I've also brought that concept into the home. I'm trying to give the Wife and kids my full attention when they're talking to me. It's not easy, let me tell you, especially when one of the kids is rambling on. But I think it might pay off. In any event, the result is that I'm firing up the laptop at home a lot less.

Lots of other stuff going on. Boys are in the middle of soccer season, so there's games/practices every Monday/Wednesday. Work is crazy with all kinds of changes going on at the same time. The Wife and I went out to dinner at a local Greek resteraunt and saw the Indiana Jones movie this weekend to celebrate our anniversary. An evening out without the kids is always a treat. I'm trying to get my hands on a Wii Fit but they're impossible to come by right now. Maverick played at a jazz concert last week. The group was great but the concert went on like 2 hours. Both the junior and senior high played and the senior high director took like 15 minutes to acknowledge and say goodbye to all the seniors. And the concert started at 7:30! Maverick has a "girlfriend". At least, she's a girl and they say they're dating. The Wife met her at one of Maverick's soccer games and she seemed nice. A bit ecclectic, but nice.

There's probably a thousand more things going on right now that I can't think of. Now that summer's nearly here, we'll probably be busy all the time.

Happy Anniversary

19 years ago today the Wife and I were joined in the blessed sacrament of marriage. 19 years later she's still the most important woman in my life and I can't imagine what I'd be without her.

So Happy Anniversary, honey. I love you does not seem enough to express all that you mean to me.

I got the music in me

I've really had music on the brain lately. I got a subsription to Guitar World and this month's issue had an article on one of my biggest guitar heroes, the late Randy Rhoads. As a result, I've been wanting to pick up the guitar all the time. Not that I hadn't already been in a guitar playing mood, it just made it worse. I've also been looking at tube amps. I got a great little device that allows you to turn the amp all the way up to get really good natural gain but attenuate the volume so you don't blow the room out. Not that I can afford to go out and buy a good tube amp, but I can still want.

Anyway, not much going one other that sports for the kids. Soccer Monday/Wednesday, karate Tuesday/Thursday/Friday. This week will be the Wife and I's 19th anniversary. We're planning a nice little dinner/movie night next Saturday. I haven't gotten her a gift yet since I can't find what I want, but I'm sure I'll have something for her to unwrap by Saturday.
